Swim Information, “Rules”, Details

Crazyman Triathlon Training Challenge October 2016
Swim Information, “Rules”, Details

What to know:
·      Swim will take place at Ventura Cove on Friday, October 21, 2016, starting at or after 4:00pm. (Note: Sunset is at 6:08pm) The physical address for GPS maps is 1280 W. Mission Bay Dr., San Diego, 92109
·      City of San Diego laws, codes, and statutes must be abided by at all times.
·      Space for this training event is limited in order to comply with city regulations regarding group size.
·      Swim course starts in waist deep shallow water. Swim out to right buoy #1 and turn left to go counterclockwise around the buoys.  Circle buoy #5 and return to #1. Buoys are always on your left when swimming (on your front).
·      Distances (assuming 1 loop is 315yd, and distance from waist deep water to 1st buoy is 85yd):
o   Iron 2.4 miles (4225yd) = 13 loops
o   Half Iron 1.2 miles (2112yd) = 6 loops + partial loop to buoy #4
o   Olympic 1.0 miles (1760yd) = 5 loops
o   Sprint (800yd) = 2 loops
o   Triathlete’s choice = you decide how far you go.
·      Water temperature could be anywhere from 59 to 68 degrees. Plan accordingly. It will definitely be “wetsuit legal” because there is no temperature “cutoff” – it’s a TRAINING event!
·      Use the stingray shuffle technique while walking in and out of the water just in case.
·      Avoid the rocky bank on the south end of Ventura Cove.
·      You may stop and rest during the swim.
·      You may hold onto a buoy or another swimmer in order to rest as long as no forward progress is made. Caution: buoys and buoy anchorage may have barnacles and mollusks attached to them. They can cut you or your wetsuit.
·      Be courteous to your fellow athletes.
·      Fins, hand paddles, pull buoys, mechanical propulsion devices, and scuba gear are not allowed.
·      Snorkels are discouraged except for “medical reasons”.
·      This is a TRAINING ‘event’ and done on the honor system… so be honest! Don’t be one of THOSE people!
·      Use your own timing device (watch, Garmin – turn off the auto-pause feature or combine moving time and stopped time) and/or have start time recorded on sign-in sheet. Do your swim and stop your time when you get to waist deep water.
·      For back-up purposes it is recommended that you have your start time recorded before you walk into the water.
·      Alcohol and/or illegal drug consumption before or during this training event is not permitted.
·      When finished, immediately report to the table, record your time and distance (loops done, not GPS reading), and sign out. PLEASE DO NOT NEGLECT TO SIGN OUT!!!
